Sickamore Talks Joining Interscope + Says Murda Beatz Will Be The Top Producer Of 2017
Former Senior Vice President, A&R & Creative Director of Epic Records, Sickamore, sat down with Billboard to discuss his new role at Interscope + much more.
Over the years, Sickamore has worked with some of the top labels; Atlantic Records, Def Jam, and Epic Records. He also managed Nicki Minaj early on in her career and was responsible for A&R’ing Travis Scott‘s Rodeo and Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight albums.
Sickamore recently left Epic Records in April to join Interscope as Senior Vice President, A&R & Creative Director.
In the interview with Billboard, Sickamore touches on the talent over at Interscope, calling it the “Best Baby Roster” out. The roster he is speaking of includes artists such as 6LACK, Kamaiyah, Smino & Playboi Carti.
Sickamore added this as well:
“They have a lot of hip-hop label partners like the LoveRenaissance [LVRN] guys. We got 4Hunnid Records with YG, [DJ] Mustard [has] 10 Summers. Mike WiLL with EarDrummers. I really love the direction they’re going in for the future.”
Sickamore went on to talk about the new Travis Scott album Astroworld, and he had this to say:
“Astroworld is next, and we’re still working on that everyday, but you see how “Butterfly Effect” is going crazy right now at every show? We were just talking about that, and looking at different footage of that, like, “Oh my God. What’s becoming of this record? It’s some other s–t.” I think Murda Beatz is going to be the top producer of 2017. I’m just happy that they’re the ones to really do it. I think “Butterfly Effect” shows the tip of where Astroworld can land.”
