BeatStars Member Young Kio Is Making History With “Old Town Road”
BeatStars member Young Kio is making history and enjoying every minute of it.
The 19-year-old Netherlands producer struck gold when artist Montero Hill a.k.a. Lil Nas X purchased his beat in 2018. From there, Hill created a viral hit with his song “Old Town Road.”
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Hill explains how the beat was found and how the song came about.
The music situation improved in October when Hill stumbled upon the beat for “Old Town Road” while trawling the site BeatStars, which allows aspiring artists to purchase or lease instrumentals. The track was made by Young Kio, a teen in the Netherlands. Kio marked the “Old Town Road” instrumental as a “Future type beat,” and Hill found it intoxicating.
Both Young Kio and Lil Nas X are reaping the rewards. The song dominated the Country charts until it was pulled down for not “being country enough,” but that didn’t stop the duo from pushing forward.
Currently, they are sitting at #1 on the Billboard charts with the remix of “Old Town Road” that features Billy Ray Cyrus.
