1Mind Discusses French Montana Not Knowing The Names Of The Producers Who Made “Unforgettable”

French Montana and Swae Lee‘s “Unforgettable” is one of the biggest songs of the summer.

French & Swae Lee tapped producer trio 1Mind and Jaegen to produce the smash hit, and to most people’s surprise, the beat was not originally created for Swae and French.

1Mind spoke to Billboard about the beat and who they submitted it to first:

Billboard: The inspiration for the song came from a request to send beats for Drake’s Views album. Did you have an inkling the day you went and made the beat that it would be one of the biggest songs of the year?

Mac (of 1Mind): I kind of felt that at the time because that’s what I always feel when I make a beat: “Yo, this is going to be huge!” [Laughs] I guess I knew that the beat was really good. We all knew. We wasn’t sure what was going to happen to it. [OVO] messaged us back and said, “Keep this beat. It’s great.” So we were all optimistic about it, even though they didn’t use it. Then, once we heard the Swae reference, we were like, “Yo, this is going to be a huge song.

Another topic of discussion in the Billboard and 1Mind interview was the recent interview French Montana did with The Breakfast Club.

When Charlagmagne asked French who produced the record, French was not 100% sure, and mentioned: “Ben something…”

The story circulated around social media, and eventually, French took to Twitter to shout out all parties involved.

When asked about French‘s confusion, 1Mind had this to say:

The producer isn’t always in the studio with the artist when the song is being made. So it’s pretty understandable, especially when the beat is being passed around and a lot of people are working on it. The person they get the beat from might not even be the producer. It’s pretty understandable how that can happen. I don’t have a problem with how the process works these days, because I think it makes the music happen faster.
